Enhance Family Engagement and Learning with Family-Academics-Community (FAC) Poster and Family Awards

The Family-Academics-Community (FAC) Poster and Family Awards initiative, designed by a SBCUSD teacher, a Pasadena City College student advocate, and a CSUSB professor, offers a dynamic way to enrich learning and strengthen family bonds outside of the traditional school day. The FAC Poster features a curated list of activities categorized into three sections: family-centered, academic-centered, and community-based, each assigned a specific point value.

Families earn points by completing these activities, striving to reach the bronze, silver, and gold standards listed on the poster's right margin. This point-based system encourages families to engage in activities that promote family involvement and foster college-focused behaviors. The more points accumulated, the greater the opportunity for families to spend quality time together, reinforcing positive behaviors and educational aspirations.

The FAC Poster also serves as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate active families within the learning community. As families reach benchmark goals (bronze, silver, and gold), they are eligible for awards. Quarterly award ceremonies provide a chance to present certificates of accomplishment to both students and their families, recognizing their dedication and efforts.

Moreover, the data collected from the posters allows school administration to identify and engage with highly active families. These "influencer families" are often experienced in areas such as college visits and volunteering, making them valuable assets for further outreach and service to the school community.
