Predictive Journaling

Predictive Journaling (PJ) is a method of journaling based upon narrative therapy. Specifically, taking a meta-cognitive approach to one’s experiences and stresses by reframing the narrative and their role within it. The activity is simple; students will flip traditional journal writing by turning the reflective activity into a predictive activity by writing their future story. By placing themselves as the protagonist in their own Hero’s Journey, students identify their own areas of need, empower themselves as the primary actor, and determine the steps needed to have a successful day. If time permits for consistent time dedicated to the activity, evaluation will be in the form or student evaluations, teacher observation, and interviews with children and families.
