Salinas & Coyotes: Instruction in Poetry & Prose

Cause of Death: Systemic institutional infection leading to chronic bouts both the tertiary and K-12 levels of bureaucracy. After years of resistance and some pitch battles with fellow educators, too many resources were wrongly allocated causing the eventual eroding of the program. Internally, the immune system could have been stronger in retrospect if Mr. B in particular empowered the movement of leadership to the families. If this component was developed faster, the picking off of public school teachers and professors would have resulted in less of an impact on SCIPP as a whole. However, the natural turnover of K-12 students and college volunteers did present an ongoing difficulty stability as seen in any program that deals with students advancing to other school , and eventually, the workforce. Interest still persists in reforming SCIPP years after its death, however many of the original founders barely survived the aforementioned resistance with some actually moving away from working with different branches of SBCUSD and CSUSB. Time and public interest will determine if SCIPP or any reincarnation of it will come to life.

Creators and Developers: Larry Light, Professor Juan Delgado, Mr. B, Molly Tor, Professor Kelly Straight Dortch, Daiana Rodriguez (CSUSB), Professor Alex Avila, Roxanna Cervantes, MaryLou Alvarez, Tenaya Fuentes, Wendy Moreno, Jessica Almanza-Ruiz, and many others. This group of outstanding patents, teachers, and professors worked tirelessly for the kids CSU students of San Bernardino.

Below are artifacts of SCIPP that give insight to the evolution of the project and the SCIPP Radio Hour that served as the annual rite of passage for the kids, families, and college tutors…
