Crows are often associated with death.  However, the same crow cawing outside your home may be smarter than you youngest child in terms of problem solving and tool use. In addition to mortality, crows are often symbols of change and transformation.

On the day of the 2023 smARTshow a peculiar thing happened; the crow made itself the lore of the group. A large murder of crows appeared outside the Garcia Center for the Arts venue.   Crows cawed at the humans, fought one another, and even a few were crushed under the sandal of Hermes (i.e. the Fed Ex truck tire) hours before the show.

No tragedy occurred that evening, but for many students and families, a major transformation happened. Since then, the crow has been the unofficial symbol of change and transformation for each smARTshow class.
